The Veer Shaheed Kesari Chand Rajkiya Snatkottar Mahavidyalaya, Dakpathar established in the year 1993 is catering to the needs of higher education of the Pachwa Doon and Jaunsar Bawar tribal area of Distt. Dehradun and fulfill the aspirations of higher learning of the youth. The college caters to the needs of the students coming from Pachwa Doon, tribal area of Jaunsar Bawar region of district Dehradun and also Jaunpur region (backward area of District Tehri) and adjoining states of Himanchal Pradesh and Uttar Pradesh. This diversified social-cultural background of the students makes this institution as one of the leading college in the Garhwal region of Uttarakhand. The vision of the college has been to promote qualitative higher education to the aspirants in various disciplines of knowledge and develop an aptitude and skills in the students to equip them to face challenges. The college is committed to provide value based education to women and socio-economically background students and to the student belonging to the weaker section of Jaunsar Bawar region. The prime objective of the college is to transform the students into well meaning citizens through the committed pattern of instructions based curricular aspects. The college not only aims to provide higher education to all students in national context and to transmit the subject knowledge but also provide platform for various co-curricular and extra-curricular activities for an overall development of the students.

The college was established as a single faculty (commerce) college.  In its twenty three years of journey the college has been consistently on the path of progress with many milestones in name. In the year 1993 the strength of the college was only 55 students which rises to more than 2000 students in the year of 2016. Initially the college was run in rental premises given by the Department of Irrigation, Dakpathar for 7 years. In the year 2001, the college was shifted to the GGIC building under the ownership of Department of Irrigation where the college shared the premises with Ashram Padhati School and Nari Niketan, Uttarakhand. Presently the college has in its name 16 acres land transferred from irrigation department to the college by the department of higher education, Uttarakhand Government. New building was constructed by the UP Nirman Nigam and handed over to the college.  Meanwhile, the old building was retained by the college to run the professional courses for the students.  Ashram Padhati School and Nari Niketan was shifted   to their respective buildings and the college came into possession of the whole building vide the District Administration order. Presently the old building named as Professional Courses Campus runs self finance courses. This building has multipurpose hall, class rooms, laboratories; library and toilet facilities are available.  The sprawling new campus (lower Lakhwar) houses all the three faculties namely Science, Arts and Commerce at the level of UG and PG. The college building spread in three acres of land has four blocks namely Administrative, Arts, Science and Commerce block respectively. Library, class rooms, laboratories, staff  room,  departments, NCC room, NSS room, Sports room, girls common room, separate toilets for girls and boys and attach toilet for staff as in other infrastructural facilities available. The campus has its own play field of 400 meter of athletic field track, basketball, volleyball, kabbadi courts, cricket pitch etc.  It also has hostel accommodation of 50-60 students for SC and ST women students. Under MSDP programme the boy’s hostel is under construction and shall be available in next session for the students to reside. To make the campus green and to have variety of the flora and fauna, plantation was done with 1500 plants were planted by forest department, Kalsi in the year 2015.  To maintain green belt all around the campus the NCC and NSS students have been roped in for regular watering and looking after the plants.

The college is affiliating to HNB Garhwal Central University, Srinagar and curriculum formulated by the University is implemented by the college. Subjects taught in the  science stream are Physics, Mathematics, Chemistry, Zoology and Botany, whereas under the arts stream Hindi, English, Sanskrit, Political Science, History, Economics, Education and Home Science and commerce stream in the undergraduate level. In post graduate level, Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics, Political Science, Hindi, English and History and Commerce are run by the college. The admissions in the above courses are on the basis of merit. The college offers professional programme viz. B.Ed, BBA, PG Diploma in Journalism and Mass Communication (PGDJMC) and PG Diploma in Yogic Science (PGDYS).

The college has its own website www.gdcdakpathar.com which provides not only detailed information about various departments but also disseminate information to students regarding all notices, extra-curricular activities, merit list etc. College prospectus enumerates not only the admission procedure, criterion for merit list but also publicize various clubs for extra- curricular and co-curricular activities for maximum participation of the students.

The progress of the students is monitored by the faculty members through time to time assignments, seminars and practical records. The faculty of the college participates in various programmes to update the knowledge in respective subjects as Refresher course, Orientation Course, Seminars, Workshop and Edusat Satellite Programmes. The college has a central library for UG/PG students and PG library for respective departments. The recruitment of the teacher as per UGC guidelines is done through State Public Service Commission. At present college has 25 regular, 13 temporary and 03 part time teachers. Most of the faculty members use the multimedia modern technology. The college always encourages and motivates the faculty members to conduct quality research work and publications. The college research committee actively supports the faculty members to promote the research work as per the UGC Norms and present demand. The college faculty member have carried out good research and publication work for last 3 years and organized various seminars and workshop of National and State level standards.

The institution gets variable annual grants under the maintenance of infrastructure heads. For the construction work, college either invites tender or handed over the budget to the agency which is approved by the state government. The institution publish college magazine ‘Kalindi’ and the college prospectus which contains all the information about admission procedure and rules, subject combinations, available seats program-wise, fee-structure, concession and scholarship etc given in details. Apart from rules and guidelines, it contains the information related to extracurricular and co-curricular activities as student union, Hostels, NSS, NCC, sports, cultural activities etc. The institution provides the financial aids in the form of scholarship by the state government social, welfare department.

The additional support extended to the students of SC/ST/OBC/PH category through prevention cell for the welfare of student, career counseling cell, grievance cell, parent teacher association, redressal cell, alumni associations etc. to progression and student support. To promote the sports activities of the college, the students are encouraged and motivated through various incentives as track suit, sport kit and refreshment to increase the number of participation in activity related students progression. To achieve the goal and objectives of the institution all college faculty members, office of the Principal and non teaching staff with the support of parent – teacher associations and student union work together. To maintain harmony and discipline including with academic atmosphere. The college proctorial board, antiraging cell, grievance cell and redressal cell works together very actively.

The college planning and development committee work together regarding maintenance and construction as per the direction given by the principal. To achieve the excellence research development committee, library committee and purchasing committee work potentially to enhance the leadership and management quality of the students. The college adopted the healthy practices in order to improve the smooth functioning of the qualitative academic and administrative system. College follows the UGC, university and G.O.s of state Government strictly to achieve the specific objective and goals of the college. Routine surprise visit of the head of the institution and interaction with students and teachers maintain the punctually and healthy academic atmosphere.

To ensure the overall development of the students value based education is provided through their participation in NCC, NSS, national festivals, local religious festivals as well as college invited eminent persons and get interacted with students. The college students also participate as help group during natural and man-made disasters. College organize annual sports, cultural and union week in which most student take participations. The college publish magazine ‘Kalindi’ and organize seminars and workshop time to time. The college has the biometric to ensure the presence of teaching and non-teaching staff to assist the students regularly. The college is known for its academic and administrative environment, sanctity of examination and excellent results.
